The Blues booked their place in the Super 15 play-offs and halted a four-game losing streak with a 33-16 victory over the Highlanders at Eden Park on Friday.
Tries from Stephen Brett, Luke McAlister and Jared Payne did the damage for the home side, while Lachie Munro kicked 18 points.
Matt Saunders crossed the line twice in reply for the Highlanders, but they struggled to cope with the wet and windy weather.
In Friday's other game Western Force ensured Melbourne Rebels' debut Super 15 season ended on a losing note with a hard-fought 27-24 victory at AAMI Park.
It took Willie Ripia's 78th-minute penalty from 45 metres out directly in front of the posts to separate the two sides on a cool Melbourne evening.
