The ACT Brumbies opened their Super 15 campaign with a 28-20 victory over the Chiefs at Canberra Stadium.

First-half tries from Robbie Coleman and Francis Fainifo put the Brumbies in command, before the Chiefs fought their way back into the contest in the second half.

Sitiveni Sivivatu and Tewera Kerr-Barlow both went over soon after the restart to close the gap to just three points, before a Matt Giteau penalty and Salesi Ma'afu's try sealed it for the hosts.

Lelia Masaga added a late try for the Chiefs, but they failed to collect a bonus point when Tim Nanai-Williams hit the post with the conversion attempt.
