Carl Frampton's next fight date and venue revealed

By David Kelly

Carl Frampton will continue on his road back to a World title shot when he fights at the SSE Arena on April 7.

The Jackal, who returned to the ring last month on the back of his WBA featherweight title defeat at the hands of Leo Santa Cruz, is being lined up for a tough challenge in the new year with three-weight world champion Nonito Donaire a possible opponent.

Promoter Frank Warren confirmed the April 7 date last night for Frampton but says he is still working on an opponent.

"We still have to discuss an opponent with Carl and his team," said Warren.

Frampton is being lined up for a shot at the winner of the IBF World featherweight title fight between champion Lee Selby and Leeds hero Josh Warrington.

Selby and Warrington are set to clash at Elland Road, the home stadium of Leeds United, on May 19.

Selby will start as favourite to come through that fight and set up a battle with the Jackal at Windsor.

Warren confirmed that the Donaire camp have shown interest in a fight with Frampton, while the former champion has also communicated with the Belfast man on Twitter.

The Belfast show is also expected to feature Frampton's close friend Paddy Barnes as he seeks to move up the world flyweight ladder.
