Charteris a possible for Perpignan

Luke Charteris could become the next member of Wales' World Cup squad to land a lucrative deal in French club rugby.

French newspaper L'Independant reported that Newport Gwent Dragons lock Charteris has agreed a three-year contract with Perpignan. Perpignan signed Wales back James Hook earlier this year, while fellow Test players Mike Phillips and Lee Byrne are now with Bayonne and Clermont Auvergne respectively.

Press Association Sport understands that Charteris, whose Dragons contract expires at the end of this season, has courted interest from several French clubs, including Perpignan. Perpignan, though, have yet to confirm any move for the 28-year-old, who was one of Wales' star World Cup performers.

Charteris is currently sidelined due to a wrist problem that has required surgery, and he could be out of action for up to four months, which would sideline him for this season's entire RBS 6 Nations Championship.

Wales launch their Six Nations campaign against Ireland in Dublin on February 5.
