Chavhanga downs Cardiff

A try from replacement Tonderai Chavhanga eight minutes from time sealed a narrow 18-14 RaboDirect Pro12 derby victory for Newport Gwent Dragons over rivals Cardiff Blues.

The game, postponed from November when a rainstorm flooded Rodney Parade, was in the balance right to the end as the Blues laid siege to the home half for most of the second period. But the Cardiff outfit could not take the chances they created after the interval as the home team held out for their sixth league win of the campaign.

Chavhanga's touchdown added to an earlier score from lock Jevon Groves, while wing Tom James got the Blues' only try of the match. Home fly-half Lewis Robling landed two penalties and a conversion, while ex-Scotland number 10 Dan Parks kicked three Blues' penalties.
