Chiefs denied late win

Chiefs playmaker Stephen Donald saw a late drop-goal charged down as the Hurricanes scraped an 18-18 draw in Hamilton.

The teams were playing to avoid the wooden spoon in the New Zealand conference and the stalemate means the Chiefs continue to prop up the rest.

Richard Kahui and Isaac Ross scored the tries for the Chiefs with Donald kicking the rest of their points while Andrew Hore and Hosea Gear crossed over for the Hurricanes. Aaron Cruden also kicked eight points.

The returning Danny Cipriani kicked seven points but was unable to prevent the Melbourne Rebels slumping to 32-17 defeat against the Brumbies.

Making his first appearance for a month after being ostracised following two breaches of discipline, Cipriani was impressive but the English fly-half's best efforts were not enough at Canberra Stadium as a host of departing Brumbies players signed off in style.

Tries from Jarrod Saffy and Afusipa Taumoepeau provided the rest of the Rebels' points but Christian Lealiifano, Tyrone Smith, Matt Giteau, Pat McCabe and Stephen Moore went over for the Brumbies with Giteau also kicking seven points.
