Clermont edge cagey contest to book last-eight spot

Clermont booked their place in the quarter-finals of the European Champions Cup after a tight 9-6 win at French rivals Bordeaux.

Camille Lopez kicked three penalties for the visitors at the Stade Chaban-Delmas, while Irishman Ian Madigan replied with two for the hosts.

Madigan had given Bordeaux an early lead as they took advantage of the visitors being temporarily reduced to 13 men with the expulsions of Isaia Toaeva and Viktor Kolileshvili.

But they were made to pay for more missed opportunities as Clermont battled on to book their place in the last eight of the competition.
