Ballynahinch take huge stride to retaining title

Ballynahinch took another step towards retaining their Ulster Senior League title with a bonus-point victory over Dungannon at Stevenson Park last night.

They head the table with 34 points after seven fixtures with City of Derry four points behind, but having played an extra game.

Hinch led 24-0 at the interval after Richard Reaney goaled two of the tries touched down by Andrew Harper, Robin Harte, David McGuigan and Aaron Ferris.

Three minutes into the second half, Hinch made it 31-0 with a converted Kelvin Hamilton effort. Dungannon's Nathan Patterson dashed in before Ferris got Hinch's sixth. Dungannon's No 8 Stephen Todd crossed twice and Gareth McGonigle goaled three before McGuigan added his second.

Ulster Senior League fixtures: Thursday: Belfast Harlequins v Armagh; Queen's v City of Derry. Friday: Malone v Ballymena.

The Danske Bank Schools' Medallion Plate final between Ballymena Academy and Down High takes place at BRA this afternoon (2.30 pm).
