Favourites Hinch face tough task in Towns' Cup quest

By Ronnie Ingram

Ballynahinch's toughest test en route to their Millar McCall Wylie Junior Cup success came at Carrickfergus, where they squeezed through 18-17 - and the RiverRock Towns' Cup favourites know they're in for another difficult challenge against the east Antrim side at Tom Simms Memorial Park tomorrow afternoon.

This will be the third meeting between the clubs this season with Hinch also having won a home Conference League Division 1 clash back in August.

It has been a disappointing few days for ex-AIL outfit Ards, meanwhile, who have just been relegated to Kukri Division 2 following a 62-0 defeat at Omagh.

They will start as underdogs to a confident Enniskillen, who lost in last season's final to Bangor.

Towns' Cup: Carrickfergus v Ballynahinch II, Ards v Enniskillen; Armagh II v Ballyclare, Bangor II v Clogher Valley.

McCrea Cup: CIYMS v Belfast Harlequins II, Grosvenor v Cooke and Malone II v Academy. Queen's have a bye.

There could well be a new name on the Danske Bank Schools' Medallion Shield as only one of the semi-finalists has previously won the competition - Bangor Grammar 32 years ago.

They will be favourites to lift the trophy again, having already eliminated Ballymena Academy and RBAI, the holders for the past three seasons.

Bangor face RS Armagh at Queen's while Portadown College play Friends' School at Banbridge (both 10.30am).
