Cookstown tot up 50-plus

Cookstown recovered from last week's humiliating loss at Portadown with a superb 59-7 triumph over Clogher Valley III.

They forged ahead for a 33-7 half-time advantage when out-half Ciaran Currie ran in from halfway, while Kevin Nugent, Paul Laverty, Michael McKeown and Kevin McSorley also scored for Paul O'Neill to goal four. Clogher managed to cross their opponent's line on one occasion, flanker Neil Henderson crashing over for Lee Carruth to convert.

Back row forwards JP Reah, Ryan McLaughlin and Martin Devlin were always in the action and the team was rewarded with four more tries. Winger Stephen McKenna showed his pace and determination when he twice gathered on his own '22' to weave through for a try. No 8 Reah and a second from Laverty concluded the scoring for O'Neill to goal a further four.

Cookstown are now in joint second to Enniskillen III who, by virtue of their 39-10 win at Banbridge V and having played an extra fixture, head the table. In the other game, Cavan II had a 16-7 victory against Portadown V.
