Though the Guinness PRO14's leading scorer, with 48 points from four games, is on the bench this evening, Cooney looks sure to get on, whether at scrum-half or out-half, to mark his half century.

"It's something I've been looking forward to since the start of the season," he said of his impending landmark.

"It's my first personal milestone as I've had injuries before, and in three years at Connacht I only just got over 40 caps."

Not only will winning bring Ulster four victories in five rounds of the league but it will also rack up their 14th unbeaten game at home in all competitions since October 2018, when Connacht won in Belfast.

"It's hugely important," said Cooney of keeping the home record intact.

"And it would be good to keep some momentum going towards our European games (in two weeks' time)."

Hooker Rob Herring returns tonight following his late dash to join Ireland at the World Cup and he skippers Ulster.
