Edinburgh name five debutants in backs for Guinness Pro12 opener against Cardiff

Edinburgh will have five debutants in their back line when they begin their Guinness Pro12 campaign against Cardiff.

Former Glasgow pair Glenn Bryce and Duncan Weir start at full-back and stand-off respectively on Saturday evening.

Former Ulster winger Rory Scholes starts on the right flank while Australian Solomoni Rasolea and Samoan-born Australia Under-20 cap Sasa Tofilau combine in a new-look midfield.

Loose-head prop Jack Cosgrove could also make his competitive debut off the bench.

Head coach Alan Solomons said: "The pre-season is now behind us and we are all looking forward to the start of the competition. Cardiff away is a tough opening fixture and we know that we will have to be at our best on Saturday."

Edinburgh are without Alasdair Dickinson (hamstring), Neil Cochrane (back), Anton Bresler (groin), Jason Tovey (wrist), Phil Burleigh (back), Damien Hoyland (groin) and Will Helu (hamstring).
