England remain on course for a Grand Slam after ending France's eight-match unbeaten run in the RBS 6 Nations with a 17-9 victory at Twickenham.
The clash of this season's two undefeated sides was effectively settled in the opening minutes of the second half.
Level 9-9 at the interval, England scored the game's only try 85 seconds after the restart when Ben Foden went over.
Then Jonny Wilkinson, with his first kick after coming on for the injured Toby Flood, added a penalty - and with it regained the international points-scoring record from New Zealand's Dan Carter.
Before the break, Flood and Dimitri Yachvili each kicked three penalties.
