Evans facing a fight for Wales place
Grand Slam and RBS 6 Nations winner Ian Evans accepts he could have a tough task on his hands to reclaim a place in the Wales second-row.
The Ospreys lock will miss next week's first Test against Australia in Brisbane due to his wedding on the Greek island of Santorini.
With his Ospreys colleague Alun-Wyn Jones, whose sister gets married later this week, also set to be missing from the Suncorp Stadium starting XV, it presents a golden opportunity for Bradley Davies and Luke Charteris.
"I can accept that it could be tough to get back in the team," Evans said."If everything does go well for the team in the first Test, and I hope it does, then I can fully understand the situation. I will have to take it on the chin."
Both Davies and Charteris are expected to be part of an advance Wales playing party heading to Brisbane to fine-tune first Test preparations on Thursday.
"Once you get your chance, you have got to take it, and if I am lucky enough to get another chance then the responsibility falls on my shoulders," Evans added.
He can vividly remember the moment he informed his future bride that he would be going on a rugby tour rather than honeymoon. "I made a run for it out into the kitchen and then waited for the pans to come flying through," said Evans, who will marry fiance Angharad next week.
The following morning, after formal marriage papers have been signed, Evans will fly to Melbourne via Athens and Dubai, while his wedding party spend a few more days enjoying the Greek sunshine.
"We chose the wedding date more than a year ago," Evans added. "My partner is a teacher, and she has next week off with it being half-term. It (clash of dates) probably dawned on me during the Six Nations, but I spoke with (Wales head coach) Warren Gatland and he was fully understanding.
Evans resumed his Test career earlier this season after a lengthy absence - much of it down to injuries - and his subsequent Six Nations form warranted rave reviews both in Wales and beyond. "At the time we chose the wedding date, I was just getting back into it with the Ospreys after injury," he recalled.
