Evans rescues point from Newcastle

Nick Evans rescued Aviva Premiership pacesetters Harlequins from a shock defeat against Newcastle as he claimed a last-minute penalty in a 9-9 draw at Kingston Park.

Evans landed a penalty from wide out on the stroke of full-time - to add to his earlier two - to salvage a draw for the leaders after basement club Newcastle looked to be heading for a famous victory in front of their biggest crowd of the season, while Jimmy Gopperth kicked three penalties for the home side.

Newcastle paid the price for ill-discipline with scrum half Chris Pilgrim sin-binned in the first half and hooker Rob Vickers - making his 100th appearance - yellow-carded in the closing quarter and the Falcons finished the game with 14 men.
