Falcons soar to defeat Quins

Newcastle ran in three second half tries to defeat Harlequins 33-18 and take a big step towards Aviva Premiership safety.

Quins were in the lead after just three minutes following a series of forwards drives before the ball spun wide for Tom Williams to cross in the corner and Rory Clegg's conversion made it 7-0. But Newcastle put the Quins scrum under relentless pressure, allowing Jimmy Gopperth to nail four successful kicks for a 12-10 halt-time lead.

Things got better for the home side after the break as Alex Gray, Luke Fielden and Micky Young claimed converted tries, the latter coming after Mike Brown went over to briefly give Harlequins hope eight minutes from time.
