Fiji centre Gaby Lovobalavu to join Wasps next season

Fiji centre Gaby Lovobalavu will join Wasps from Bayonne next season.

Former Toulon midfielder Lovobalavu's arrival at the Ricoh Arena this summer will offset Alapati Leiua's move to Bristol and Scotland centre Nick De Luca's end-of-season retirement.

"We're very pleased to have signed another player of Gaby's quality," said Wasps rugby director Dai Young.

"Gaby's comfortable playing 12 or 13, which will give us more options, particularly during the international period.

"He's got really explosive power onto the ball, as well as good pace and the agility and footwork to beat defenders.

"He carries really well and has huge physicality and dynamism in defence.

"We expect his physicality to really complement the pace we already have in our backline."

Wasps' latest signing boasts 22 Fiji caps at the age of 31 and will add yet more pace and power to the Aviva Premiership league leaders' already talent-laden backline.

Lovobalavu admitted Wasps' all-court attacking game proved central to his decision to make the switch from France.

"I have really enjoyed my time with Bayonne and I am excited about the new challenge in England next season," said Lovobalavu.

"Wasps are a very ambitious club and I was attracted by the attacking rugby they play, which is a pleasure to watch.

"I am excited by the chance to train in a world-class environment, with world-class players and I'm looking forward to really challenging myself every day, taking myself out of my comfort zone."
