Gurney handed favourable draw for World Championship opener
Northern Ireland's Daryl Gurney has been drawn against Ronny Huybrechts in the opening round of the 2018 PDC World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace in London.
Belgian Huybrechts, 52, is ranked 41st in the world and is a good draw on paper for World No.4 Gurney, who will be looking for his second televised PDC title.
It would be a fitting end to what has been a fantastic year for the Londonderry man if he could take home the coveted trophy, however he, like everyone else, will have to beat defending champion Michael van Gerwen.
The Dutchman opens his account against Christian Kist, while Phil Taylor will play Chris Dobey in the first round of his final event before retirement.
Third seed Gary Anderson will take on the winner of Jeff Smith and Luke Humphries' preliminary match, while Mensur Suljovic begins with a clash against Kevin Painter.
