Henry hat-trick seals win over Larne

Wes Henry, a former Glasgow Hawks winger ran in a hat-trick of tries in CIYMS fourth's 45-17 win at Larne thirds in Minor East 2.

This CI team is mainly made up of players that had retired and then decided to give it another go. There are at least seven former first team captains included and the front row of Colin Nelson, Andrew Gildea and Richard Wooley brings more that 75 years of Senior experience to the side.

Last season they only lost twice in the League and reached the semi-final of the McCambley Cup where they defeated Strabane seconds. Unfortunately for them they had included an ineligible player so the Co Tyrone team advanced to the final.

On Saturday CI found themselves trailing 12-0 early on due to some poor tackling but came back to level 17-17 by the interval.

Larne inside centre Ian McIlhern scored all his team's points with three tries and a conversion. Mark Spottiswoode was first to reduce the arrears before a mid-field break by McIlhern resulted in Larne making it 17-5.

CI then started to show their capabilities and full-back Johnny Cupitt proved he had lost none of his speed and determination when he dashed into the left hand corner.

Peter McCandless then converted Henry's first to level the score.

More good work and a cut out pass from Cupitt set up Henry before a rolling maul led to a Richard Stewart-Maunder try.

Towards the end McCausland kicked two penaltie

s, Henry completed his hat-trick and former Portadown first's prop Wooley crossed right at the end for McCausland to goal.
