Hodgson blow for Sharks
Sale Sharks have been dealt a major injury blow with the news that fly-half Charlie Hodgson will be sidelined until well into the New Year with a fractured foot.
The 30-year-old England half-back, who appeared as a replacement in the recent defeat to South Africa, wore a protective cast on his foot last week with the club hoping that the injury would prove to only be bruising and swelling, but X-rays have confirmed that the problem is more serious.
Hodgson joins a list of long-term absentees at Edgeley Park which includes Eifion Roberts, Neil Briggs, David Seymour, Tom Brady, Aston Croall and captain James Gaskell.
The injury means coach Mike Brewer will be without Hodgson for the Amlin Challenge Cup double-header against Brive as well as for testing Aviva Premiership assignments against Leicester, Saracens and Newcastle.
It also puts Hodgson's participation in the RBS 6 Nations in doubt.
