Inishowen feast on tries

Inishowen's youth policy has started to pay dividends as five players who were involved with Under-17 rugby two seasons ago had a big part to play in the team's 57-14 win over Donegal II in Minor North.

They are now joint leaders with Strabane II on 10 points, both having won all five fixtures, but the Co Donegal side has amassed 175 points and conceded only 33.

The experienced Dermot McGonagle, just back from a lengthy injury lay-off, made his presence felt with 25 points for Inishowen, two tries, a penalty and six conversions.

Also back in the fold after a season away is Anthony Cantwell and the No 8 crossed for a hat-trick of tries after scoring two in last week's 53-12 success at Londonderry YMCA II.

With the Inishowen forwards dominating and giving their fit backs plenty of ball, they scored eight tries in all with winger Jamie Lee showing his speed when he ran in for two. Out-half Luke Dalton scored the other try.

Other Minor North results: Finn Valley 26 Letterkenny II 9, Strabane II 40 City of Derry IV 15.
