Andy Farrell is set to ring the changes for Saturday’s visit of the USA Eagles, but the Ireland head coach has injury concerns over Jordan Larmour and Chris Farrell.
Larmour and Farrell were forced off during last Saturday’s thrilling 39-31 win over Japan, with both now in a race to make it back in time.
Larmour suffered a groin injury and limped off after half an hour, while Farrell was replaced early in the second-half having shipped a heavy head knock, with the Munster centre failing his subsequent Head Injury Assessment (HIA). An update on the fitness of both players is expected from the IRFU medical department today.
Farrell was always going to take the Japan and the USA games in isolation, but having worked hard for a good win over an excellent Brave Blossoms outfit, the Ireland boss has afforded himself extra breathing space to make wholesale changes this weekend.
“I think that was more or less the plan anyway,” Farrell said.
“We don’t often get this window to have a little bit of a look at people and give people a chance. Yeah, it’s always been in the plans to do that.”
