Ireland's rising stars out to get back on title trail

By Michael Sadlier

After defeat to England last time out derailed hopes of a Grand Slam, Ireland Under-20s take on Wales tomorrow night at Parc Eirias in Colwyn Bay (kick-off 7.45pm and live on RTE2) with the battle for the title still in their sights.

A number of alterations have been made to the side which lost 19-14 to England at Donnybrook with Ulster duo Jack Owens and Alex Thompson making way on the wing and second row respectively.

There are now only three Ulster-based starters in the side with Ballynahinch centre Sam Arnold, fresh from his debut off the bench for Neil Doak's squad on Sunday at the Dragons, retained at centre while hooker Zack McCall and number eight Lorcan Dow are also still in the starting team.

On the bench, Conor Young and the promising Jacob Stockdale have been brought into the match-day squad to bring the Queen's University contingent up to four and they join regular Adam McBurney while his fellow Ballymena team-mate Michael Lagan drops out of the 23.

Ireland U20s v Wales: B Dardis, C Gaffney, G Ringrose, S Arnold, S Fitzgerald, R Byrne, N McCarthy (capt); J Loughman, Z McCall, O Heffernan, C Romaine, J Murphy, N Timoney, C Oliver, L Dow. Replacements: A McBurney, A Porter, C O'Donnell, D O'Connor, S McVeigh, C Young, J Carbery, J Stockdale.
