Lions miss chance to top Super Rugby standings

The Lions missed the chance to finish the regular season top of the Super Rugby standings as they were beaten 34-22 by the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.

Needing only a losing bonus point to top the pile, a second-string Lions side led 15-12 at the break but fell away in the second half to miss out on guaranteed home advantage in the play-off final should they progress that far.

Anthony Volmink scored two tries for the Lions, with Sylvian Mahuza adding another, but Facundo Isa and Mattias Alemanno both touched down for the hosts, who were also awarded a penalty try and were boosted by 19 points from the boot of Nicolas Sanchez.
