Ulster full-back Jared Payne will face the British & Irish Lions – whose 10-date tour gets underway on Saturday in Hong Kong.

Payne, who will wear number 15 for the Barbarians and could face his Ravenhill team-mate Rory Best, is one of a dozen changes from the side beaten 40-12 by England on Sunday.

But Barbarians' coach Dai Young has retained Munster centre Casey Laulala following that Twickenham pasting.

Nick Evans and Dimitri Yachvili replace Welsh half-back pair James Hook and Dwayne Peel who has dropped out of the squad altogether with Glasgow scrum-half Kahn Fotuali'i named on the bench.

Lock Marco Wentzel – who is the only forward to have kept his place following Sunday's heavy defeat – will be partnered in the engine-room by 33 times-capped Wallaby, Dean Mumm.

Italy No 8 Sergio Parisse captains a focused Barbarians outfit after the invitational side broke with tradition by introducing an alcohol ban.

Welsh coach Young has demanded a significant improvement from the Baa-Baas after their heavy 40-12 defeat to England last Sunday, and the squad have responded this week by doing away with their regular "team bonding" drinking sessions.

Team manager Derek Quinnell said: "The players have put a ban on themselves really.

"We went out last night for an hour with (representatives from Danish brewers) Carlsberg and I think they were under the impression that a few pints would be sunk, but about 90 per cent of the players were drinking Coke.

"They know that last weekend wasn't good enough and it was a kick up the backside for us. They are more focused this week and the players know that if they don't look after their bodies in this sort of heat, they've got a problem coming. Fair play to them, they have reacted well to that."

The Barbarians trailed 40-0 to England before getting on the scoreboard with tries from Elliott Daly and Schalk Brits, and they know more is expected against Warren Gatland's men at the weekend.
