Marler handed three-week ban

Harlequins' Joe Marler has been suspended for three weeks after striking an opponent during the Aviva Premiership match against London Irish on September 3.

Marler, who pleaded guilty to the offence at a Rugby Football Union disciplinary hearing, will be available to play again on October 5.

Gloucester's Will James was cited for the same offence during his team's clash with Northampton on September 4.

He too pleaded guilty and was suspended for two weeks, but the ban was reduced to one week given his previous good disciplinary record.

He will be available to play again on September 20.
