Pienaar injury a big blow for Ulster

Ruan Pienaar’s Ulster debut could be put on hold due to a shoulder injury after the South African scrum-half damaged his AC joint playing for Natal Sharks in the Currie Cup.

Pienaar had already been ruled out of Ulster's opening Magners League game against the Ospreys next month as he had been given permission to play in South Africa's Tri-Nations match against New Zealand.

Pienaar had originally been due to link up with Ulster on September 1 but the Springboks match is on September 4.

It was reported it could take six weeks for the 26-year-old to return to action, meaning he should be available before the start of Ulster’s crucial Heineken Cup campaign which gets underway in October.
