Ulster 42-19 Cheetahs: Deysel shines as Ulster cruise to opening Pro14 victory

As it happened: The game through the eyes of our reporter at Kingspan Stadium

By Adam McKendry

Ulster got their season off to the perfect start with a six-try bonus point 42-19 win over the Toyota Cheetahs at the Kingspan Stadium.

It was an open, fast-flowing game, and the Ulstermen had the bonus point wrapped up by the interval through tries from Tommy Bowe, Alan O’Connor, Charles Piutau and Stuart McCloskey.

After the break, Louis Ludik and Peter Nelson added tries to complete the rout for the hosts, who put a terrible pre-season behind them with an excellent start in front of a packed out crowd in the stadium.

New signing Jean Deysel was Man of the Match while Cheetahs captain Niell Jordan described Ulster as “world class” after the game, with their tries coming from Clayton Blommetjies, Makazola Mapimpi and Sergeal Peterson.
