Ravens’ double dose of pain

Connacht A 19 Ulster Ravens 18

Ulster Ravens suffered a double blow last night, losing 19-18 at Connacht A while Cillian Willis suffered a serious injury.

The men from the west forced the Ravens to concede an early penalty, out-half Miah Nicora converting to give his side a three-points lead.

In the 23rd minute, the Ravens’ Jonny Shiells crossed for a try. Luke Marshall, though, missed the conversion. A second penalty goal from Nicora put Connacht 6-5 in front.

However, the Ravens’ Scott La Valla touched down for another try. Marshall added the extras to give the Ravens a 6-12 lead at half-time.

Willis’ night ended in agony when he was carried off the pitch with a suspected broken fibula. A Luke Marshall penalty gave the Ravens a 6-15 lead but Connacht’s Denis Buckley scored a scrappy try in the 64th minute. Nicora added the extras but Marshall then added a penalty for the Ravens. Nicora closed the gap once again to two points and Finn Gormley’s penalty sealed a 19-18 victory.

Meanwhile in the Magners League last night, leaders Leinster defeated Glasgow Warriors 20-14 while Munster overcame a determined, hard working Scarlets side 23-17.
