Rees lands Ospreys role

The Ospreys have confirmed the appointment of Gruff Rees as their backs coach.

The 35-year-old has been involved with the Ospreys since 2005, working across a number of roles, and helped to implement a talent pathway that has developed players of the calibre of Wales internationals Justin Tipuric and Dan Biggar.

He will now join the region's revamped coaching set-up following the departures of director of coaching Scott Johnson and head coach Sean Holley two weeks ago. Steve Tandy has taken over as head coach and Rees will now work with the former flanker and his assistant Jonathan Humphreys.

Rees has also worked with the Neath and Glamorgan Wanderers club sides and last season coached Wales' Under-18s.

He has spent the last eight months on a secondment with Italian side Aironi.

Rees told the Ospreys website: "I've been away from the region for a short while and the experience I've gained in Italy will prove invaluable, allowing me to understand other rugby cultures and to look at a different way of working.

"With the experiences I've got at international level and my knowledge of the group of players we'll be working with, I'm optimistic about what we can achieve here."
