Romanians punished over unfit pitch as Stade Francais are handed bonus-point win

Stade Francais have been awarded a five-point win and Timisoara Saracens fined £26,000 after an independent disciplinary committee found the Romanians had not sufficiently protected their playing surface before last week's fixture between the teams was cancelled.

Timisoara Saracens were scheduled to host Stade Francais at the Dan Paltinisanu stadium in the European Challenge Cup on Saturday, but poor weather conditions led to the game's postponement and eventual cancellation.

A statement from European Professional Club Rugby read: "The committee determined that Timisoara Saracens' preparation of the playing surface was deficient in that pitch covers were not provided, the undersoil heating system was not ready in good time and that no suitable alternative venue for the match was available.

"The committee also found that there were no exceptional circumstances and it decided to award five match points to Stade Francais Paris on the basis of a four-try bonus point result of 28-0 and imposed a fine of 30,000 euros on Timisoara Saracens."

Each club, in addition to the organisation, can choose to appeal against the independent committee's decision.
