Saracens snap up Australia lock Skelton on short-term deal

Saracens have announced the signing of Australia international lock Will Skelton on a short-term deal.

The 6ft 8in forward was a member of Australia's World Cup squad last year and has won 18 caps.

He made two appearances during Australia's recent European tour, going on as a replacement against Scotland and France.

Skelton, 24, will move to Saracens with immediate effect from Sydney-based Super Rugby franchise the Waratahs, bolstering the club's second-row department following the recent retirement of Alistair Hargreaves.

Saracens reached an agreement with the Waratahs and Australian Rugby Union regarding Skelton's availability. He will be available for Aviva Premiership, European Champions Cup and Anglo-Welsh Cup games during his stay at Allianz Park.

Saracens rugby director Mark McCall said: " We are delighted to be able to bring a player of Will's calibre into the group.

"He is an immensely-talented rugby player with vast experience for a 24-year old tight-five forward.

"It's no secret that we have been running low on a few bodies in the second-row department, but we made it very clear that we wouldn't compromise on quality when looking to add to our squad.

"In Will, we have a player who will certainly have an important role to play in our group over the next few months."
