Braid boys in charge

Coleraine AI 7 - 22 Ballymena Academy

Ballymena Academy, boosted by convincing wins over their opponents, repeated their dominance at Ballycairn Road.

Darren Geddis kicked a penalty before a few phases by the forwards resulted in a gap out wide for Thomas Gaston to cut through and score for Geddis to convert.

The Ballymena backs always looked dangerous and centre Nicholas Stirling broke on the ‘blind’ side for Geddis to score and make it 17-0.

Coleraine did come close with out-half Conor Shiells and wing forward Mark Gordon showing up well.

Their scrum-half Peter Kidd is only in lower sixth and showed plenty of potential but their young pack were outplayed.

Ballymena No 8 George Hargy was dominant in open play and, following a couple of ‘pick-ups’, he had the strength to go over for the third try.

In injury time Coleraine fought back and when Kidd charged down a kick he gathered to touch down for Micky Poskitt to add the conversion.
