Dalriada forwards set up comfortable win

Dalriada 26 Portadown College 0: This tie was played in driving rain and almost impossible underfoot conditions but Dalriada proved comfortable victors to set up another home tie against RBAI.

The size of the home pack was the main difference between the sides as Portadown were continually pushed back.

"We just couldn't stop them in the first half," said visiting coach Andrew Symington.

"Before we realised, we were 19 points behind after their out-half kicked in behind to set up scoring chances.

"We rectified the problem in the second half and turned things around and were even held up over their line on a couple of occasions."

Dalriada's first try came after a kick through by Timmy Emerson with Robert Hunter dribbling on to win the touchdown.

The second came after the forwards made ground and a driving maul led to Scott Love going over for Emerson to convert.

No 8 Scott Malcolmson, who was always evident, picked up and was driven over for the third which Emerson again converted.

"It was tough going but we should have added at least one more try at that stage but there were a few handling errors due to the wet ball," said Dalriada coach David Dougherty.

A fourth try eventually arrived with 15 minutes remaining when Emerson cut through the visitors' defence and he then kicked his third conversion.
