Down High see off Rainey to clinch spot in the final

By Ronnie Ingram

Down High qualified for the Danske Bank Schools' Subsidiary Shield final at Kingspan next Monday with a 39-10 victory at Rainey Endowed but their opponents will not be decided until Wednesday when Coleraine Grammar travel to Wallace High after their 14-14 draw.

Lorcan Dow put Rainey ahead with a try but a Will Martin try brought the visitors back on level terms. Charlie Power then kicked a penalty before he added the conversion to a Matthew Porter try to put the Downpatrick team 15-5 in front at the interval. Just after the restart Power added another penalty before winger Harry Hitchens chased a grubber kick and won the touchdown. Charlie Power added the conversion and then intercepted to go in under the posts for a 32-5 advantage.

Rainey retorted with a Cameron Stewart try before the visiting winger Marcus Graham touched down for Power to convert and bring his tally to 19 points.

In the other tie Wallace High led Coleraine Grammar 11-0 at one stage. They had a Josh Cardosi try and three Johnny Stewart penalties while Callum Smith had three penalties and Thomas Lavery a try for the home team.
