More to come: McCarey

BRA 8 Dalriada 0

A dominant second-half performance gave BRA a deserved victory over Dalriada at Roughfort to take them into the semi-finals of the Northern Bank Schools’ Cup.

After the tie Chris McCarey, the Academy coach, felt his team started rather nervously.

McCarey said: “We didn't perform as well as we should, but credit to Dalriada with their aggressive play. They kept stopping our mauls and were good in the loose.”

It could have been very different after Dalriada had a golden opportunity to take the lead, but a kickable penalty was missed and they appeared to lose confidence.

BRA then pressurised and were rewarded with a try just before the interval. On the visiting '22' scrum -half Conor Spence chipped over and Mark Glover touched down, but they failed to convert.

The second-half was a rather scrappy affair and Academy had numerous chances to increase their advantage, only for handling errors to prevent them.

They did add to the scoring, however, when out-half Stuart Olding kicked a penalty.

Towards the close, they took up a position close to the Dalriada line, but the stout visiting defence held.

Man of the match was Academy's Calum Leckey, who was outstanding in the second row and carried a lot of ball.
