Princely Regent make Carrick pay

Carrickfergus GS 17 Regent House 40

By Staff Reporter

A dominant Regent House charged into a 19-point lead but Carrick dragged the arrears back to 19-7 just before the interval.

Good play by Robbie Johnston allowed centre Jack Smith to cut through for the first try.

Prop forward Keir Edgar added the second before a Johnston carry saw winger Aaron Migan show his pace to go over.

Close to half-time a Carrick set move down the middle led to a try from full-back Jack Leathem for Daniel Curley to goal.

"We didn't play particularly well and missed a lot of tackles but felt the difference between the two teams at the end was not 23 points. We did deserve to come back to within seven points when David Doherty fell on a loose ball' observed home coach Neal Kennedy.

"Matthew Foster replied with a goaled score but Carrick again hit back when Curley intercepted a long pass to run in.

"It was a tough game we controlled well and our pack had the upper hand towards the end." said visiting coach Nick Gamble.

There were further scores from centre Ryan Upritchard and prop Curtis Jones and Robbie Johnston who had a big influence and kicked five conversions.
