Rugby: Inst edge past Coleraine to Schools Cup final

By Staff Reporter

Hundreds of excited pupils and fans poured into Belfast's Kingspan Stadium yesterday to cheer on their teams in the first semi-final of this year's Danske Bank Schools' Cup.

In a hard-fought match, Royal Belfast Academical Institution (RBAI) registered a decisive 10-6 victory over Coleraine Academical Inst.

The red and white chequered flags of Coleraine waved wildly as the Bannside team pulled away to an early three-point lead. At half-time everything was still to play for, with the score standing at 3-3.

But with light beginning to fade, the RBIA team pulled into a lead the Coleraine side could not overturn - propelling the Belfast school into the final. The other semi-final is tomorrow when Methody take on Lisburn's Wallace High School .

Methody are chasing an unprecedented fourth consecutive win in the tournament, which climaxes at the Kingspan stadium on St Patrick's Day.
