Shingler set to appeal

London Irish centre Steven Shingler has appealed against the four-week ban he received after being sent off in the Exiles' 24-18 Heineken Cup defeat to Cardiff Blues.

Shingler, the Wales Under-20 international, was shown a red card for a dangerous tip tackle on Blues centre Dafydd Hewitt.

The independent appeal committee will be chaired by Professor Lorne Crerar (Scotland) and will also comprise HHJ Jeff Blackett (England) and Pat Barriscale (Ireland).

Shingler's appeal will be determined by written submissions with a decision to be "announced at a later date", according to tournament organisers European Rugby Cup Ltd.

London Irish travel to Racing Metro on Saturday, chasing their first Heineken Cup win of the season.

The Exiles will be without suspended England international backs Shontayne Hape and Delon Armitage.
