Schmidt puts faith in Ulster lock for Six Nations opener

By Jonathan Bradley

Ulster's Iain Henderson is relishing being back in Six Nations action after Joe Schmidt named him in the Ireland engine room for tomorrow's Murrayfield opener with Scotland (2.25pm).

The dynamic forward missed out on the championship last season through injury but the Ireland coach has shown his faith by handing the 24-year-old just a second ever start in the northern hemisphere's showpiece tournament.

Alongside skipper Rory Best and fellow Ulsterman Paddy Jackson, with Tommy Bowe also among the replacements, Henderson says Ireland must do what they do best in Edinburgh. "We know we have to knuckle down and get our own detail right and concentrate on ourselves," he said. "We know what we can do right and do well."
