Slick Seasiders Bangor show they're too hot for Ballyclare

By Ronnie Ingram

Bangor needed a bonus point to eliminate Instonians' hopes of winning Q1 and that's exactly what they did with this 36-14 triumph over Ballyclare.

The Seasiders claimed a place in the AIL Qualifying Round-Robin which starts with a home game against Westport on Saturday week.

Bangor finished their programme with 80 points while Inst are on 74 with a game in hand.

The home side forged ahead to a 24-0 interval advantage.

Their star No8 Curtis Stewart was again in top form and gave them the lead with the first of his three tries after seven minutes which Mark Widdowson goaled.

Dessie Fusco was next to score before Mike Weir cut through to go over in the corner.

Before half-time Stewart added his second which Gareth Miller converted.

Jason Morgan linked with Ross McCluskey who touched down. Weir and Morgan combined for the sixth for Stewart to race through for his third which Miller goaled.

Late on Ballyclare were awarded a penalty try and Bobbie Smith had a breakaway try and he added the points to both.
