Smith gets Ospreys chance

The Ospreys have offered Wales-qualified fly-half Pete Smith the chance to earn a full-time deal with the region after signing him on trial from Sydney club Northern Suburbs.

The 21-year-old, whose father was born in Wrexham, will join up with the squad at pre-season training after signing a short-term contract.

Ospreys chief operations officer Andrew Hore said: "Pete comes to us highly recommended, with an outstanding record in Sydney club football."

He added: "The feedback we've had about him suggests he has all the attributes we want from a 10, he takes the ball to the line and offloads well.

"He's got a real opportunity to make an impression with the Ospreys, and if all goes well then he has a chance to earn himself a long-term contract."
