Stormers edge out Cheetahs in Bloemfontein

The Stormers posted a hard-fought 20-10 victory over the Cheetahs in a cagey Super Rugby encounter in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The visitors opened the scoring when pacy wing Leolin Zas touched down on 14 minutes, Robert du Preez adding the extras, but the hosts ensured it was all square at the break courtesy of a try from captain Francois Venter which was converted by Fred Zeilinga.

Both teams suffered blows in the early stages of the second half, with Cheetahs lock Lood de Jager yellow-carded for a high tackle on Pieter-Steph du Toit and Stormers losing fly-half Du Preez with what appeared to be a serious knee injury.

The Stormers moved ahead on 54 minutes when Sikhumbuzo Notshe burst through to score. Kurt Coleman converted to make it 14-7 and, although a Zeilinga penalty got the Cheetahs back within touching distance, two late penalties from Coleman put the Stormers out of range.
