Terry McMaster prepared for tough Italian warm-up

By Ronnie Ingram

Ulster Under-20s will have former Irish Under-19 players Conor McKee, Conor Young, Josh Bingham, Lorcan Dow and Michael Lagan in their line-up for the stern test against Italy at Newforge this afternoon (4.00pm).

The team will have 11 of last season's squad back but for this game they will be without three who have been called up to the Ulster senior squad.

Terry McMaster, the manager and technical advisor, has an abundance of players to choose from but in this friendly the result is not as important as the manner in which the team performs.

"This is only a means to an end as our priority is the Inter-Provincial title chase which will start against Connacht on September 5," he explained.

"We have been putting the building blocks together over the past couple of months and we know Italy will be physically strong at the scrum and around the edges and we are prepared for that."

The visitors will be fielding pretty much the same team that gave Ulster Under-19s a stern 10-7 challenge at Upper Malone early last season.

Team: M Lagan, Z McCall, A Maraci, T Donnan, N Simpson, C Irvine, T Boyd, L Dow, C Young, J Bingham, K Joyce, C McKee, J Beattie, J Beattie, R Campbell.
