Thomson on song

Adam Thomson bagged a hat-trick of tries as the Highlanders ran rampant in the second half to trounce the Rebels 43-12 in their Super 15 clash in Invercargill.

The Highlanders scored 31 unanswered points after the break thanks to some breathtaking rugby as they gained their sixth win in seven games.

They scored seven tries to none and the winning margin would have been even greater had they not missed six kicks at goal.

Ben Smith scored two tries and was lethal from full-back, while Kade Poki also crossed.

James O'Connor booted four penalties for the visitors.
