Tommy Bowe "gutted" not to be Ireland's sexiest rugby player
Paul O'Connell has captained Ireland to a record-equalling 10 successive wins but another accolade has been haunting him all week.
A poll revealed last week that O'Connell is Ireland's sexiest player and it appears that heavy lies the crown.
"I can't believe you're joining the group that have been slagging me," O'Connell said.
"I've been on the back foot about this all week."
A thousand Irish women were asked which player they would most like to sleep with and ginger Limerick native O'Connell scooped 23% of the vote - and women also think he’s got a great body (31%).
"He looks a bit like Hell Boy but he’s also very funny and intelligent, as we’ve seen on his Late Late show interviews," said Claire Page, spokesperson for dating website Illicit Encounters, which carried out the survey.
"Putting that with his amazing physique - I mean, he’s tall, broad and his upper body strength is so impressive, he’s able to bench press over 180 kg - it’s not hard to see why women across Ireland find him so attractive."
Full back Rob Kearney, who boasts more classic good looks, came in close second place at 20%, with Tommy Bowe taking 15% of votes and many women citing that they couldn't understand what the Munster man was saying as the reason for his lower percentage of votes.
Ireland player Andrew Trimble joked that his Ulster team-mate Tommy Bowe is "gutted" after missing out on the award.
"Tommy really thought this was going to be his year to win the sexiest rugby player in Ireland so he hasn't left the house. He's very disappointed.
"I know that Tommy is very, very gutted."
