Ulster Exiles eye £100,000 TV cash

By Niall Crozier

A team of rugby players from Northern Ireland will be going for pre-Olympics gold this weekend.

On Saturday night the team, known as The Ulster Exiles, will be appearing on ITV’s Let’s Get Gold programme.

The Exiles — winners of the Carrick Sevens for each of the past two seasons — are Anas Smaah, Chris Henderson, Mark Ruddell, Michael Kirkwood, Daryl Marshall, Michael Reid, Mike McKeever and the Potter twins, Tim and Simon.

Drawn from the Harlequins, Dungannon, Banbridge and Armagh clubs, they have been chosen to represent the province in ITV’s Vernon Kay-fronted Britain's Got Talent-style show in which teams from a variety of sporting codes go head-to-head in the hope of winning the £100,000 prize.

In order to do that they will be required to earn the acclaim of an all-celebrity panel of judges — Rio Ferdinand, Freddie Flintoff, Una Healy and Martine McCutcheon.

The three-programme series kicks off tomorrow night (9pm), with parts two and three being screened on Friday and Saturday.

A total of 15 teams from all over the UK will be in action over the three nights.
