Ulster Operations Director Bryn Cunningham has said the province must start from the foundations and build again after last week's departure of Director of Rugby Les Kiss.

The Australian left Kingspan Stadium seven days ago after two and a half years in the top job, with Cunningham yesterday admitting that the side would be instigating more wide-ranging and fundamental change in the coming months.

In stark contrast to previous proclamations coming out of the organisation that they must target being the best side in the world, Cunningham said now was an opportunity to take stock.

"There is a change now and as far as we are concerned it is an opportunity," he said. "I think the way we are looking at it is a chance to almost start from the foundations and build back up again.

"I think we've had a chance to sit back and look at what's important now and where we are, take stock and almost have a bit of realism about exactly where we are. We've got to be optimistic and positive about moving forward but also appreciate where we are, the restrictions we have."

Ulster are back in action on Friday with Southern Kings in town (7.35pm kick-off).
