Ulster have been handed a huge boost just over a week away from their Guinness PRO14 opener with the news that Marcell Coetzee is fit to start tonight's pre-season game at Wasps (7.30pm kick-off).

The South African talisman has managed just five games for the province since arriving in Belfast in 2016 and has not played since the opening game of last season, virtually 12 months ago.

When the 27-year-old did not appear against Gloucester last week, alarm bells started to ring among the Ulster faithful over his readiness for the new campaign, but Coetzee will wear the six jersey at the Ricoh Arena this evening in what is a long-awaited return to action.

With head coach Dan McFarland finally having been allowed to commence work at Kingspan Stadium this week, he has handed first Ulster starts to two of the side's summer signings.

Will Addison and Marty Moore, who both came off the bench last week, will start the game, the latter against his old side, but there is still no sign of Wallaby winger Henry Speight who arrived only last week, while Billy Burns went off injured against Gloucester.
