La Rochelle v Ulster: Ulster lose out to Top 14 side La Rochelle in Champions Cup

La Rochelle 41 - 17 Ulster

By Adam McKendry

Ulster were served a lesson by Top14 giants La Rochelle, who scored five tries in an emphatic 41-17 win at the Stade Marcel Deflandre.

It took three minutes for La Rochelle to take the lead as Jérémy Sinzelle crossed, but Ulster struck back through a Christian Leali'ifano try.

Leali'ifano kicked a penalty, but Alexi Bales slotted two of his own to ensure La Rochelle would lead at the interval.

But four tries in 16 minutes after the restart to seal the five point win, with Victor Vito, Kevin Gourdon, Pierre Aguillon and Jason Eaton all scoring.

Ulster did get a consolation through Tommy Bowe with ten minutes to go, but this is a game they'll want to forget.
